The St. Luke’s community includes people born into the Episcopal or other tradition, those who find themselves curious about God, and by those who have felt hurt by the church. We desire to offer a safe and welcoming space to each one who walks through our red doors, honoring where each person is on their journey. We take to heart Rumi’s invitation to “come, come, whoever you are, wanderers, worshipers, lovers of leaving.” You will find companionship, and an invitation to explore your faith according to your timetable, your boundaries and your needs.
Come As You Are
St. Luke’s is a community that comes together around belonging in Christ. When we see one another, we see a person God loves because they are growing into living and loving the way God created them.
To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 1 Corinthians 12:7
We know that we each bring something unique, something different to this community. Sometimes those differences are obvious. Sometimes they take some time and care to discover. We hope to be a community where each person feels safe in all their difference, where each of us knows that our unique ways of being are essential to the Body of Christ.
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2
We do our best to remember that each of us has suffered—or might still be suffering—in one way or another. This helps us to always hold one another with grace, patience, and compassion.
And, yes, there is joy here! The joy of really seeing one another and being seen. The joy of really supporting one another and being supported. The joy of gathering around a God who is love.
